Religion is a touchy subject. And 'incredibly easy to make fun or preach. But an honest examination of faith requires a total commitment and a willingness to let non-believers and fake hypocritical disdain. Higher Ground debut Vera Farmiga is dominated by a totally awesome task his characters undertake not to believe. Unfortunately, it will never change, that commitment should be more rewarding experience. Although serious approach to Christianity, not Farmiga find something interesting to say.
Higher Ground following life story of Corinne (Farmiga). The film starts slowly and picks up speed has never much. We see the life of Corinne Childhood Home, his introduction to Christianity, his intellectual curiosity, her marriage at a young age, and finally his "come-to-God" moment. This is all before we finally get to see Corinne as an adult and his total dedication to Christianity. While everything in the first act is unnecessary, it could have been condensed and creatively explained.
When we see life as Corinne devout Christians, the film picks up some steam, but can not keep up. Corinne viewer through the stages of his Christian life is a curious, but Farmiga does not seem to know what a good story, and what is not. He also is not able to bring a spark of the process. There are some oddities in his laughter of the evangelical faith, but almost all are presented as fact, that rarely seems to be a lot of joy in the Christian faith. When Corinne expresses the desire to speak in tongues, so that he could be closer to God, is a wonderful time, because the film rarely shows his love for these people, who love Jesus
To his credit, never Higher Ground inches from nose to faith and it is incredibly admirable. The film has the potential to be special, because it makes no decision on the dedication of his characters. The question that their discriminatory practices and minds close, but it enriches their total faith in God and the devil as a real physical devices that can be called and fought against in your daily struggles.
Higher Ground, but never connected the faith of his characters something great. There is no insight or even more of an emotional bond. This is not a film that is a great performance and it is clear that Farmiga is actively making a choice, not large (except in brief sequences, the strange fantasy that feels like a comic supporting) c "Okay if you has the intensity and complexity to simmer beneath the surface. Higher Ground could have been divine, but Farmiga and address history is rarely successful in raising the spirit of the film.
