Doraemon, Pokemon, Akira, Sailormoon, and Detective Conan - What do these television shows have in common? These are all animated television series turned movies that inspire most of us, especially those anime enthusiasts. Anime is a genre that has become an all time favorite, as it continues to entertain us since the day it was introduced. Anime is not simply a genre for kids, but a popular form of entertainment in Japanese culture. These are animated TV shows, movies, and direct to video releases usually derived from a famous -Å“manga" or comics. These are released and sold in anthologies either weekly or monthly with growing numbers of readers each year.

Just because a movie is animated does necessarily mean it is made solely for children. Anime is flexible enough to come in several subgenres that cater to audiences of all ages. With this variety of content, viewer's discretion is highly suggested. A Japanese anime movie can be easily distinguished from other animated releases through its chic characters. Characters are usually depicted with eyes larger for the heads, very slim physique due to their extra elongated legs, conspicuous spiky haircut for the male and sleek, pixy hair for the female. Gestures and facial expressions are mostly exaggerated such as massive sweat drop, bulging lines on the forehead, jaw dropping, and others. A traditional anime movie is somehow similar to the usual cartoon when it comes to production techniques. Story board creation, dubbing, and character design are also applied in producing anime that have improved from time to time. Better drawings and finer movements of characters were made possible through computer animation techniques. If manga is a hit, so is anime. It has also become every fan's daily episode fix and weekly anthology worth watching. It has been transformed to online content you can access any time and any where you want.
