Spare me.If you're really serious about making a crime scene investigator job your life's work you'll need a tight grip on these two words, work ethic. Your transition from watching television CSI episodes to actually becoming an investigator is going to require some schooling and it won't be easy. Visiting a crime scene may look interesting and easy when watching it on TV or in the movies, but an investigators job involves more than just walking around a horrific murder scene taking pictures and making notes. Today the challenges are far greater because thieves are smarter. It's not like the old days when criminals could get away with murder because finding evidence was hard to come by. Crime scene investigation jobs also involve the application of forensic science.Getting involved in the field of investigating requires motivation. First, you'll need to decide which CSI path to take. An investigator position will require you to respond to the crime scene, determine what happened, how it happened and find any evidence, including DNA, to support your theory. Then there is a forensic scientist position where you analyze the evidence from the crime scene and answer, as best you can, the who, what and why questions. Your CSI job path starts with at least two years schooling to get a degree, although some positions will require four years.Once you complete your education and begin researching investigator jobs, remember you are entering a highly demanding position that will require you to be mentally and physically fit. Often the challanges are monolithic. Among other things you may give court testimony as well as responding to emergencies during your job hours which can be day or night. On occasion sleep comes whenever you can find it. After you have your investigator credentials and begin your job search, you'll find the beginning salary is between $35,000 and $45,000, depending on the city you choose. After 60 months your income should be near $55,000 and can balloon to six figures with 10 years on the job. Thanks to TV crime scene investigator jobs are quite attractive but can be more challenging than a regular day job.
