"Lion King", the award-winning Broadway musical of Disney's roar Into the West End for more than 40 actors, singers and dancers to perform a wonderful zoo is a beautiful high school musical theater. Director Julie Taymor, who also wrote some of the music and lyrics as well as costume design and help design masks and puppets, has done an incredible job in 1994 to convert the animated film into a stage musical. In fact, the Broadway show, which opened in November 1997, has won 24 major awards, including the 1998 Tony Award for best musical and the show is sold out every show since its opening. Will have the same effect here? Well, maybe the tickets are selling well in almost all weekend filled with up to June next year.
The story is about the young lions Simba prince, whose birth caused his evil uncle (SCAR) Back to the second line to the throne. Scar plots to kill two Simba and his father, King Mufasa, and proclaim himself king. Simba survives but is led to believe that his father died because of him and what he decides to flee the kingdom. Simba befriends a wild boar meerkat named Timon Pumbaa and farts called care of it. When Simba is fully developed, is faced with the decision to return to his kingdom to his evil uncle, almost destroyed.
So it looks as good as you would expect from Disney? Well, yes and no! The special effects are spectacular and the whole show is a colorful and lively. Although the story is good, needs a little extra kick that I found the show is struggling to maintain momentum from time to time. Even the music is fragmented. Most of the songs are Elton John and Tim Rice, and there are other songs by Lebo M, Julie Taymor, Mark Mancina and Hans Zimmer. Very impressive line-up, but there are some memorable songs like "Circle of Life" and "Lives in You", most of the other songs are quite normal. However, special effects, puppets and more to address these deficiencies and will delight young and old how.
There is a high efficiency and lovely Josette Bushell-Mingo as Rafiki, and muscular performance by John Cornell is a compelling Mufasa. Young Simba is played by the stunning looks cheeky Ross Coates, a name to consider in the future. Other references are Rob Edwards, playing badly, Scar "field", Martyn Ellis as "Pumbaa and Timon, and Simon Gregor. In general, however, the whole enterprise is so solid and professional.
The show has received a thumbs-up from the popular press: Sarah Hemming told the Financial Times: "As a successful musical range is a beauty and intelligence." Charles Spencer of The Daily Telegraph "says:" For once, a mega musical lives up to the hype. It is a dazzling show with the heart of a lion. "Nicolas de Jongh of the Evening Standard said:" A beautiful dazzle of invention and imagination. "Benedict Nightingale of The Times says," Wonder African jungle, is to show worth catching. "Peter Hepple scene said:" This stage version of Disney's animated film is a great joy. "
The Lion King is a beautiful sight with a giant elephant, giraffes, antelopes and many more animals are brought to life by the fantastic costumes, masks and special effects. But you come away with mixed feelings to think that maybe it would have been much better. There is simply not satisfy some people!
