Moneyball
Director: Bennett Miller
Stars: Brad Pitt, Robin Wright, Jonah HillStudio: Columbia Pictures
There's really no reason for the ball to Jonah Hill, Moneyball and neighborhood should be a good movie. It is an adaptation of a nonfiction book on an obscure practice called sabremetrics economy, the story of a baseball team that has a limited success, even a leading role of Brad Pitt, an actor who usually runs a envelope itself when you play a deaf Everyman. Some of these things would be enough to destroy a small film, but silver ball is remarkable and resistant to anything that works against it. Director Bennett Miller, who took over when Steven Soderbergh's version of history was abandoned at the eleventh hour, has not turned into a Hollywood movie traditional sport, but a meditative and thoughtful examination of the disappointment and hope tenacious that make high-profile victories on the track.
The atmosphere is certainly there, but the story does not quite cut it - even with a list of writers Steven Zaillian, and Aaron Sorkin, Ball money is not properly manage its large cast of characters, or even the sad story of Billy Beane (Pitt ), a promising big leagues to recruit directly from high school who was able to go to any big companies. We spend large parts of the movie stuck in the past history Beane, or his personal life (including a small role in Robin Wright, as his ex-wife), but it all seems obvious and a display character traits that Pitt has to go through one of crinkled, bittersweet smile. How to talk fast, Beane a tumultuous and passionate, Pitt has never been better, relaxed, has the charisma of the screen, he never quite cracked the screen as well. His scenes of Jonah Hill, who plays new recruit Assistant General Manager, Mr Peter Brand, crackle spirit and energy enough to completely cover the other deficiencies in the film.
Silver bullet had been two of them and their crazy schemes, he may well have been perfect.
In the classic sports film, Moneyball begins with our hero and his team in the pits, the Oakland Athletics had lost two World Series and star player Jason Giambi of the Yankees (Johnny Damon, his great name, it was the Red Sox). Beane is frustrated in meetings with the usual confidence in the brains of scouts and statisticians, and a failed attempt to trade some players with the marks of the Cleveland Indians Beane meeting, the tears from his office with a box of jangly authority quickly became the defining characteristic of Beane. Soon Beane and brand are inseparable from the computer, the choice of inappropriate and forgotten gems scattered among the list of MLB, the construction of a team that seems that everyone in the company, completely without value.
We know that after decades of sports stories that are just a bunch of losers waiting for their chance to succeed, and it is a pleasure to look familiar Scott Hatteberg Chris Pratt able to play first base, or the Former superstar David Justice (Stephen Bishop) learn to be a team player again. But the true spirit of the film comes in all conflicts between the offices where Beane in permanent conflict with the team manager Art Howe (Philip Seymour Hoffman, good but underused) and Beane and execute transactions on mobile brand with the ability and precision of a bank robbery. One scene in particular phones, with the brand power and the names of the players Beane Beane manic munching snacks hidden in the drawer, you feel as alive as any I've seen on film this year. While many other characters, including Howe, Hatteberg and scouts of the old school, not fully developed as a screen presence, the relationship between Beane and the brand is executed so perfectly that he did for her.
Miller used only sparingly in the grass green and the dazzling lights of the stadium, the iconic images that are treated as a Sideshow Oddity baseball close to real work, which takes place in the middle of the concrete walls and gyms dirt behind the scenes. Beane did not watch the games, and for a long time and even us, that is, when it is finally time to watch the game out, it is difficult to know how to invest our hopes and understanding of what can happen. But the money ball, as the name implies cynical, there's no magic in the game, but the calculations and discussions, that make possible the only reason they get a taste of green grass, which will bring a piece of our throat is because it puts a piece of Billy Beane too. This hero is tricky because the ball is money, success, but the huge presence of Pitt in the movie falls a balance, making it a character study, which overshadowed the real story was told.
